Introduction

This lesson is here to help the shop assistants to communicate on daily basis with their foreign customers. There are also some phrases that especially the workers of clothes shops might find useful. The second section of this lesson deals with specific vocabulary and phrases that the workers of the car and bike rentals may need almost every day when talking to their English-speaking clients.
Tato lekce by měla napomoci prodavačům v každodenní komunikaci s jejich zahraničními zákazníky. Jsou tu také fráze, které mohou být obzvláště užitečné pracovníkům v obchodech s oblečením. Druhá sekce této lekce se zabývá specifickou slovní zásobou a frázemi, které upotřebí pracovníci autopůjčoven a půjčoven jízdních kol při komunikaci se svými anglicky mluvícími klienty.

Selling

There are certain phrases you use at work every day – usually almost automatically. It is quite easy in your own language but what about in English? There are some basic phrases and vocabulary you might find useful when selling goods in your shop to your foreign customers.

Selling clothes

If you work in a clothes shop, you will probably need more specific vocabulary for communication with your customers:

You can wash it at 40 degrees. Můžete to prát na 40 stupňů.
I´ll put it in a bag for you. Dám vám to do tašky.

If you are renting, your level of English should be certainly higher than if you are only selling. You will have to communicate with your client a lot more specifically and clearly to make sure that you get your car or bike back all right?

There are some phrases you should definitely know.

You have to bring it back with a full tank.Musíte to vrátit s plnou nádrží.
You will bring it back with an empty tank. Vrátíte to s prázdnou nádrží.
It runs on gasoline. Jezdí to na benzín.
It runs on diesel. Jezdí to na diesel.
The car has to be returned by 2pm on Sunday 22nd. Auto musí být vráceno do 2 hodin odpoledne v neděli 22.
Is there a mileage limit? Je nějaké omezení na počet kilometrů?
We need to sign a rental agreement. Musíme podepsat dohodu o půjčení.
You will need to leave here a deposit. Budete zde muset nechat zálohu (kauci).
You can pick the car up either in Prague or in Beroun. Můžete si auto vyzvednout buď v Praze anebo v Berouně.
You can return the car either here or in Poděbrady.Auto můžete vrátit buď tady anebo v Poděbradech.

Grammar box – Contractions


Contractions are used in English very often to shorten the speech. 
They are informal but very often used in daily communication. 
They are not used in formal, especially written English. 

Zkracování je v angličtině velmi často užíváno pro zkrácení 
slovního projevu. Je to neformální ale velmi často užívaný 
jev v běžné komunikaci. Zkracování není užíváno ve formální, 
obzvláště psané angličtině.  

1) They are often used with verb to BE:
I'm instead of I am
You're instead of you are
She's instead of she is or she was

2) HAVE, HAD
We've got instead of we have got
He's got instead of he has got
I'd been instead of I had been

3) WILL, WOULD
I'll instead of I will
I'd instead of I would

4) In negative
I won't instead of I will not. 
It isn't instead of it is not. 
He doesn't instead of he does not. 
I can't instead of I cannot.
